(Which completely ignores the hundreds of £s spent on the computer needed to run it!). IMO we have long way to go before we get a high performance SDR receiver at the sub £200 price. I would expect both the 7030 and the HF-225 to put the SDRPlay in a poor third place. Googling will tell you the story of its talented designer John Thorpe (another British success story) and his abortive attempts to make the successor receiver the 7070. Strange to think the venerable 7030 is well and truly old-school though it was a "damn-" good school. Both the 7030 and NRD 535D are more sensitive than the Perseus though it's the Perseus which gets the day-in day-out usage due to its wideband recording facilities and infinite digital filtering abilities.

However you're not comparing satsumas with tangerines so to speak. Straight shoot-out between the 7030 and the SDR Play would see the 7030 walk all over it single frequency wise IMHO. The 225 also does not have the frequency readout to 10 Hz which the 7030 has. 3-4 years ago I bought a Lowe HF225 for the French shack - which I rarely use as though the ergonomics of the 7030 are certainly not optimal I prefer its remote to the HF225's. I bought mine in the late nineties as well and would not sell it. It's a better receiver than the HF-225 - the filters are better though my 7030 is fully loaded with the two extra Collins.
